Are You RootWize?

As each of my three children turned three years old, I asked them a simple question, “Who’s in charge of you?”  Each one would say the same thing, “You.” And I would tell them that they were in charge of themselves.  I explained that   I could ask or tell them to do something.  But it was up to them to do it.  They understood that sometimes they would do something other than what I asked and I was none too happy about it.  I also described the idea that for every choice they made there was a consequence.  It might be good or bad depending on the choice and they had to take responsibility for the choice and the consequence.

Three years old might seem like awfully early to start such a philosophical discussion.  But I thought it was more practical in nature. We all have to take responsibility  for our actions and the sooner we do the better.

Fast forward 13 years and suddenly, I’m face to face with diabetes.  I had visual floaters all my life. I had a parent who had diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.  I had gestational diabetes with my middle child and 8 years later, I had diabetes.  I stayed a lamb for years; trying to do what I was told but not trying very hard.  Then a friend gave me a book called Reversing Diabetes by Dr. Neal Barnard.  I tried it.  It worked.   And then I went off the wagon. Every so often, I get back to what I know works.  But there is always a holiday, a party, a  special occasion, a vacation, or just something I really, really like that I want. I sit to long watching frivolous tv shows and binge watch on Netflix.  But I’m now I’m working hard to get my 10,000 steps a day in .

I am trying with every fiber in me to keep me alive. RootWize is my lifeline and we want to bring along as many people like me as we can all over the planet. Many people don’t have the knowledge or support to make it over the time it takes to create the lifelong, life giving habits necessary to defeat diabetes. RootWize wants to personally partner with those in the shadow of diabetes or pre-diabetes and walk with them step by step, all day, everyday until staying alive and well is a habit.

On September 8, 2015, the Journal of the American Medical Association published the results of a study that stated 50% of American adults  have diabetes or pre-diabetes.  This is a medical tsunami and it is progressing around the globe.  The World Health Organization reported 422 million adults with diabetes in 2014.  Obviously, we need a lot more help, a lot more daily interventions, a lot more care than we’re getting.

Rootwize wants to help you take care of the Root that is You.  We have the vision, the knowledge, and the plan. Please join us in this worldwide movement to eliminate diabetes.
